Terry the Trout
Brown Trout · Salmo trutta
The classroom for this fish. Use the Trip Planner when you want a mark for today.
When to Go
Trout like cool, well-oxygenated water. After rain on a river. Overcast on a stillwater. First and last light in summer. In winter, midday can work if you slow down.

The season
Brown trout on most English and Welsh rivers: roughly 3 March to 30 September, with local variations. Many stillwaters are open all year on a ticket. Fly-only waters will not want your spinner — read the board on the gate.
Weather
A rise after a dull warm spell. A spinner after colour. Bright high-pressure days push him down — go small, go deep, or wait for evening.
