Who we are

Fishing Time runs this website at fishingtimeadventures.co.uk. For data protection we are the controller. Questions: sam@fishingtimeadventures.co.uk.

This is the notice that matches how the site works today. It is not a solicitor’s letter. If we form a limited company or add a new tool, we will update it.

What we collect

  • Account: username, email, password (stored hashed) or a Google / X sign-in.
  • Your date of birth, so we can apply the age rules in “Children” below.
  • Whether you ticked “email me about kits”.
  • Sessions you log: mark (map pin), place name, date and hours, species, length or weight, lure or tactic, notes, photos you add, and who can see it (public, catch without the location, friends, or just you).
  • Weather, wind, tide and sunset for that pin and time — we fetch those from public weather and tide services.
  • Friends, match challenges, and venue date requests.
  • Contact form: name, email, type of query, and the message.
  • Shop orders: name, delivery address, email and what you bought.
  • Questions you ask the AI chat (logbook, planner and guide).
  • Venue link taps: when you tap a venue’s “Buy a pass” link we log the venue, where you tapped it (Catch Map or Venues), the time and, if you’re signed in, your account. We only look at the counts per venue.
  • Technical: sign-in cookies, a bag stored on your device, and an offline copy of pages and map tiles (see “Cookies and the app on your phone”).

Why we use it

  • To run your membership, log book, map, matches and guide.
  • To show public logs to other members, if you chose public.
  • To email you a password reset, a match invite, or a friend request.
  • To answer a Contact Us message.
  • To keep the site working and stop abuse.

UK law needs a reason. Accounts and logs are to perform the service you asked for. Marketing mail is consent. Keeping the site safe is legitimate interest.

Public logs

If a session is public, other members can see the pin, your username, the fish, and any photo you attached. That can give away a mark. Share catch, hide location shows the fish without the pin or place. Friends is only your mates. Private stays in your log book. You choose this at the end of logging a session.

Who we share with

We do not sell your details. These companies process data for us to run the site:

  • Vercel — hosts the website and runs the app.
  • Neon — the database that stores accounts, logs, photos and orders.
  • Resend — sends our emails (sign-up confirmation, password reset, order, match and friend notes).
  • Stripe — takes card payments for the shop and the Hub. They see what they need to charge the card. We never see or store your card number.
  • xAI — powers the AI chat (logbook, planner and guide) and the automatic photo checks. What you type in the chat is sent to answer you (for the logbook chat, with a summary of your logs), and photos are sent when they are checked. xAI is based in the US, so this is an international transfer of your data out of the UK.
  • Google or X, if you choose those buttons to sign in.
  • Weather and tide providers, using the pin and time only.
  • Map pictures and fonts: Stadia Maps (the map, drawn from OpenStreetMap data) and Google Fonts. Your browser loads these straight from them, so they see your IP address and which part of the map you are looking at — not your account.

Some of these providers may handle data outside the UK. Where that happens we rely on the safeguards UK data protection law allows for those transfers.

The operator can see member emails and all logs from the admin tools, to run the club and shop.

How long we keep it

Account and logs stay while the account is open. Pre-order emails stay until that drop is done or you ask us to delete them. Password-reset links die after an hour.

You can delete your account yourself at any time: go to Account and choose “Delete my account”. That removes your account, logs, photos and the rest of your personal data straight away, and cancels any Hub subscription. Shop orders are kept, no longer linked to you, because we need them for our accounts, and past venue bookings stay on the venue’s books as “Former member”. You can also email us and we will do it for you.

Your rights

You can ask to see what we hold, fix it, delete it, or stop marketing mail. You can complain to the ICO. Write to us first at the address above and we will deal with it.

Children

Accounts are for people aged 13 and over. Do not create an account for a younger child. We ask for your date of birth; an account for someone under 13 is locked and cannot log sessions.

Members under 18 get extra protection. Every session they log is private, whatever setting is picked. On anything public — the map, feeds and leaderboards — they appear as “Angler”, never by name. Public posting starts at 18.

The Members Market is for people aged 18 and over. Members aged 13 to 17 can use member chat (Messenger) only with a parent’s or guardian’s consent.

Cookies and the app on your phone

We use a sign-in cookie so you stay logged in. The shop bag is saved on your device. So the app works without signal, your device keeps an offline copy of pages and map tiles you have opened. It never keeps your account data from the server, and signing out wipes the offline copy, so the next person on a shared phone does not see your pages.

Photos

Only upload shots you are happy to store with us. If a photo is on a public log, other members can see it. Do not upload pictures of children. We run a quick automatic check on each photo when you save a session. It can miss things — use Report on a map pin if you see a problem, and we will take it down.

Changes

If the product changes (payments, a company, a new tool), we will update this page and the date at the top.
