Line
Two setups. Pick one and learn it.
Spooling
Whichever line you choose, spool it like this. Fill to about 2 mm below the lip — too full and it tangles, too empty and you lose distance.
Option 1 — 15 lb mono
15 lb (about 0.35 mm) mono. Cheap, and the stretch stops a bass bouncing the hooks out at close range.
Once it’s spooled, tie a uni knot straight onto your lure clip or lure. Use a small coastlock or fast-snap — not a giant carp clip.
Option 2 — braid to fluoro
20–30 lb braid for distance and feel, with 4–6 ft of 15–20 lb fluoro leader. Never braid straight to the lure — bass see it and rocks cut it. Put a few turns of mono backing or a strip of tape on the spool first so the braid can’t slip.
Once the braid’s spooled, join the fluoro leader with an FG knot. Then tie your lure clip onto the end of the fluoro with the same uni knot as Option 1.
FG knot (braid to fluoro)
Practise it at the table first. A good FG goes through the rod rings.
Uni knot (clip onto the fluoro)
