When to Go
Carp feed on mild nights, dropping pressure, and swims you’ve baited. Bright sun often puts him off the bottom — that’s a zig day. In winter, fish the middle of the day, slower.
Season
Most UK stillwaters are open all year for carp. Rivers follow the coarse close season (15 March to 15 June in England and Wales). Always the fishery’s own rules on top.
Hours
Nights on a serious pit. Mornings on a club lake. Surface fishing wants warm air and fish you can see. If the car park is full of bivvies, walk the margin with one rod instead of joining the line.
